Alice Carrier, 24, Montreal: mother alleges ChatGPT reinforced her suicidal thoughts

Alice Carrier, 24, a web developer in Montreal originally from New Brunswick, died by suicide on 2 July 2025. Her mother, Kristie Carrier, alleges ChatGPT initially pointed her to help but then reinforced her hopelessness and isolation over dozens of conversations, including in the hours before her death, without any human intervention. OpenAI called the situation heartbreaking and said the conversations happened on an earlier version of ChatGPT.
